Wiki / Socketed Gems

Cut Gems — a permanent bonus socketed into your gear.

Jewelcrafting turns a bar and a raw gem into a Cut Gem. Socket a Cut Gem into an eligible weapon, shield, helmet, chest, gloves, legs, or boots piece for a permanent bonus — one socket per item. Sockets only exist on the main craftable gear sets (Copper through Primordite and everything between) — unique drops, world boss rewards, and profession-bonus gear (like the crafting-station gloves) don't have sockets.

Removing a gem to free up the socket destroys it — there is currently no way to recover a socketed gem once it's been placed, so choose carefully.

All 34 Cut Gems

Each gem's effect is matched to its name or color where one makes sense (Topaz → Gold Find, Glacial Diamond → Frost Resist, Pyrope → Fire Resist — the name literally means "fire-eyed" in Greek) — ATK and DEF fill in the rest. Magnitude only depends on tier, so a higher-tier gem is always at least as strong as a lower-tier one, regardless of which stat it landed on.

How socketing works

Craft a Cut Gem via Jewelcrafting (1 bar + 1 raw gem of that tier, same duration as any other basic craft).

Use the Socket action on a Cut Gem in your inventory to pick an eligible item to place it in.

Each item has exactly 1 socket. Once filled, you must destroy the gem to free the socket for a different one.

Upgrading a socketed item with an Upgrade Orb keeps the gem on a success; a failed upgrade destroys the item and the gem together, same as it would with an enchant.

A Cut Gem's tier is independent of the item it's socketed into — a low-tier gem can go in high-tier gear and vice versa.

The 8 stat families

Every family's value steps up by tier alone (+1 step every 6 tiers, doubled for 2x-Gather Chance), regardless of which stat a given gem happens to carry — but since gems are hand-matched to a fitting stat rather than evenly cycled, each family's actual ceiling depends on which tier its highest gem landed on. No gem grants DEF — it's not worth much for most players, so it's not in the rotation.

Highest value per family in the table above: 2x-Gather Chance +16%, ATK +12, Fire Resist +12, Gold Find +12%, Frost Resist +12, Item Find +10%, Lightning Resist +10, XP/task +8.
